Wrestling News
Moorhouse in the Championship Round
The Marengo Wrestling team had a very impressive post season, advancing 7 to sectionals. Everybody wrestled very tough including Joey Moorhouse who took first and became a sectional champion. Joe wrestled very well at state and made it all the way to the finals where he participated in the “Grand March.” If you have never seen the Grand March I would advise you to see it sometime in person. Imagine 10,000 people packed in Assembly Hall in Champaign, with all the lights off, and the Olympic theme playing and only spotlights on as you parade around the arena; it is definitely an impressive event! I know as a coach it was one of the most memorable moments of my coaching career. Joey wrestled tough but unfortunately lost 3-1 in the finals and took 2nd at state. The team also had 7 wrestlers named to the All-Conference team. The following wrestlers are: Joey Moorhouse (unanimous), Angel Botzoc (unanimous), Jake Keefer (unanimous), Rick Goerke, Taylor Steinmann, Torben Hoffmeyer, and Mark Hendricks (Honorable Mention). Wrestling open mats will be resuming later in the spring and all through the summer. Wrestling open mats are for anyone interested in learning more about wrestling or for anyone who wants to get better in the off-season. Open mats will run every Tuesday and Thursday from 3:30-5:00. The Marengo Wrestling Camp will run from June 14th-June 18th 3:30-6:00p.m. Cost 45$ and it is for grades 6-12. Camp information can be found on the school website and at the school. For anyone who is interested in joining the team, I encourage you to please speak with me about it. Wrestling is a very difficult sport; however it is a very rewarding sport at the same time. Wrestling is also a sport that helps you in all your other sports; it will make you faster and stronger. Once again I would like to thank the town of Marengo for all its support this year. Please support us next year as we strive to improve on this successful season of 16-6! GO MARENGO WRESTLING!! »
