Accessing Online Textbook Resources for Biology, Chemistry, Earth Science, and Physical Science Classes
If your student is having trouble with our Biology, Chemistry, Earth Science, or Physical Science courses, wants to study ahead of time for a test or quiz, or wants to access the online edition of their textbook, he/she can access many online resources from the Glencoe website. Below are the steps for accessing these resources:
1) Go to the following website: www.glencoe.com
2) In the upper left-hand side of the screen, choose "Illinois" from the state drop-down menu, click on "Student/Parent," and choose "Science" from the subject drop-down menu.
3) Click on "Enter."
4) Choose the appropriate subject for which you want to access the online resources. You will then be given a list of textbooks to choose from. Below is a list of textbooks to choose, depending on what subject your student is in:
For Biology, click on, "Glencoe Biology 2009"
For Chemistry, click on, "Chemistry: Matter and Change 2008"
For Earth Science, click on "Earth Science: Geology, the Environment, and the Universe 2008"
For Physical Science, click on, "Physical Science with Earth Science, 2009"
5) After clicking on the appropriate textbook, a new window will open with a list of resources available for that textbook. NOTE: There is no online edition for the Chemistry textbook.
Below are the software requirements to view the online textbooks:
MAC:
• At least version 3.1.12 of Safari
• At least version 2 of Firefox
• Acrobat Reader 9, depending upon the online text
• Flash Player 10, depending upon the online text
PC:
• Internet Explorer 6 or above
• Acrobat Reader 9, depending upon the online text
• Flash Player 10, depending upon the online text
6) For resources available for a specific chapter or unit in the text, please select the correct unit and/or chapter from the drop-down menus located on the left hand side of the web page.
In order to access the online editions of the textbooks, you will need an access code. This code can be obtained from your student's instructor. You can have your student obtain this code from their instructor directly, or you can e-mail or call your student's instructor. You can e-mail individual instructors through the staff directory on this website. »
