SUMMER READING REQUIREMENT
Beginning in the summer of 2010, any student enrolled in an honor’s level English course will be required to complete a summer reading assignment. Honor’s English I, II, and III will read one novel and complete a corresponding assignment. Students enrolled in AP Literature and Humanities will be required to read two and complete corresponding assignments. Click here for requirements and worksheets.
Class discussions and assignments will focus on these novels when students return in the fall. Students will have brushed away some of the summer cobwebs and be prepared to begin class. The completed reading will provide a basis for discussion, writing, and thinking from the first day on. The corresponding assignments will be graded and averaged into the students’ grades, but failure to complete the reading does not automatically drop the student from the course. As a pilot program, only Honor’s level classes will participate this summer, with possible expansion next year. Information about selected titles will be available in May.
Selected Titles:
Honor’s Freshmen: Of Mice and Men
Honor’s Sophomores: Brave New World Click here for online version.
Honor’s Juniors: Catcher in the Rye Click here for online version.
AP Literature: The Kite Runner and Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close
Humanities: The Kite Runner and Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close »
